Department of environmental acoustics (O26)

Department 26 - illustration photo

The activities of this department are mainly focused on the evaluation of acoustic conditions in the vicinity of roads, especially on the measurement, mathematical modeling, noise mapping and the assessment of the population's exposure to noise from traffic. Noise control measures are assessed and proposed and action plans prepared for areas along roads, under Directive 2002/49/ES.

The workplace is equipped with noise measurement instruments, which allow to make acoustic measurements of type 0 of the accuracy classes according to IEC 651 and 804, or the measurements of type 1, with a possibility to perform a real-time frequency analysis. The Norsonic devices meet the requirements of the existing EN and ISO standards and are fully compatible with the devices of other global manufacturers of measuring instruments. The software SoundPLAN used by this workplace is one of the globally used software applications for the modeling of noise from transport and industry. This software system allows to calculate noise maps of large cities, enumerate the population affected, make tile maps and share calculation on several PCs. The system includes the relevant overseas and European standards and it is being developed according to the current recommendations of the EU.
